Upcountry Maui
What is Upcountry?
Maui is known as the Valley Isle. Two sets of volcanoes grew together to form the island. On one side of the valley are the West Maui Mountains. On the other side of the valley is majestic Haleakala, the tallest peak in the Hawaiian islands at 10,032 feet. On the slopes of Haleakala is the area known as Upcountry Maui.
Why Head Upcountry?
Upcountry is the salad bowl of the island. Nearly all the produce grown on Maui comes from upcountry. Eclectic, relaxed, interesting, fun are all words which describe what can be found on a trip up Haleakala. Make a day trip of the fun things mentioned below and get up to the crater in time for sunset!
Hawaiian Sea Spirits
One of the most interesting stops Upcountry is Hawaiian Sea Spirits. Original species of sugarcane, which used to be a major crop grown in the islands, have been preserved here and are grown to produce the base of Ocean Vodka and their other products. Take a tour of the farm and distillery.
Surfing Goat Dairy
Seen the fainting goat videos, well what about surfing goats? Surfing Goat Dairy isn’t on the ocean so you likely won’t see the goats actually surfing. This working goat farm and dairy offers a couple of tour options. Be sure to pick up goat cheese to snack on as you continue up the mountain.
Upcountry Maui Ziplining
Ready for adventure? These are not your ordinary ziplines! Through a bamboo forest, traversing a swinging suspension bridge, zipping over canyons at up to 45 MPH, adventure for sure. This will get your blood pumping! Enjoy Skyline Eco-Adventures Haleakala ziplines located just below the crater of Haleakala! The views are AMAZING!
